Biomass Resources

What is the raw potential of biomass for energy? How can such information be used to support the development of biomass resources?  The answer can often times be complicated to find as the actual amount of energy that can be converted from biomass into energy varies tremendously.   This section will discuss the energy potential of biomass, the ecological and physical characteristics of bioenergy crops, an overview on the availability of wastes and residues, and a brief outline of how a biomass resource assessment might be conducted for the two main sources of biomass: dedicated energy crops and wastes/residues. The focus in the discussion is on plant biomass, although animal-based biomass (e.g. residues and remains) is also mentioned briefly.
